Rostrevor
Rostrevor

ROSTREVOR is best described as 'The sweetest little watering hole to be found in the Three Kingdoms and one of the most beautiful spots in Ireland', (Murrays Handbook 1896). Rostrevor takes its name from its Landlords of 1641, Sir Eward Trevor, whose wife was named Rose, therefore 'Rostrevor'. The village is in the Parish of Kilbroney, ('Cill' a Church and 'Broney' of Bronach). St. Bronach is the Patron Saint of these parts... an Abbess who lived in the 6th Century. Many of her relics can still be found in the area, especially in Kilbroney Graveyard.

CLOUGHMORE (BIG STONE): Cloughmore a 30-ton Granite boulder lies on the Mountain Ridge approximately 1000 ft. above Rostrevor village, where the above photo was taken. Geologists describe Cloughmore as a spectacular remnant of the Ice Age but local folklore is much more colourful and relates the Stone to Finn McCool (Legendary Irish Giant).
